Founder: George
Kometani
In
the spring of 1990, after working 30 years as a mechanical engineer
in the aerospace industry designing, building, launching rockets
for government experiments and directing the launching of the first
successful commercial scientific rocket, BrightLife founder George
Kometani changed his direction to "body mechanics." Upon
experiencing the healing effects of shiatsu massage, he decided
to focus on this form of holistic healing. After graduating from
the Shiatsu Massage School of California in Santa Monica, California,
he worked and taught for a number of years, at the same school while
developing his own private practice which he still successfully
maintains today. Using his skills as a mechanical engineer, he invented
and developed the Bodyfloat System.
In his quest for a complete body therapy technique, he has studied
many different modalities of massage such as: Sports Massage, Reflexology,
Jin Shin Do (energy work), Myofascial Release, Zen Therapy, Visceral
Manipulation, Pregnancy Massage and Qi Gong (Chinese energy exercise).
He has incorporated the best of all of these modalities in his practice
to meet the needs of his clients.
More recently, Kometani
has been in demand as a clinician to teach others practitioners
the techniques which he developed himself for effective relief of
neck and shoulder pain. Seeking to share his knowledge of the positive
effects of Self-Massage, he has facilitated regular workshops with
extremely positive results to various civic, church, school and
other interested groups. He contends that we can accomplish a great
deal for better health with self-massage on a daily basis.
